We Built this City was a lively panel discussion which aimed to raise awareness and celebrate the contribution Irish people have made to the built and cultural fabric of London, from historic to contemporary times.
Chaired by Angela Brady PPRIBA, Director Brady Mallalieu Architects in discussion with: Dervilla Mitchell, CBE, Engineer for Arup; Jarlath Regan, comic and creator of the Irishman Abroad Podcast; Professor Mary Hickman, research fellow at the Centre for Irish Studies; Niall McLaughlin, Niall McLaughlin Architects; Ultan Cowley, author of The Men Who Built Britain. Introduction by Mr Jimmy Deenihan T.D. Minister for Diaspora Affairs.
This short film, commissioned for We Built this City, was filmed and directed by David O’Sullivan of Dyehouse Films and was screened as an introduction to the discussion.
We Built this City is presented by the Irish Architecture Foundation in collaboration with Irish Design 2015 (ID2015) and the Office of the Minister for Diaspora Affairs of Ireland. ID2015 is an initiative backed by the Irish Government celebrating and promoting Irish design in Ireland and internationally.
